Flexible in use: a gymnasium / studio apartment / entertaining space. Somewhere to cook, sleep and shower. A statement: More of the same was not going to work.

The front wall and roof maintain the domestic scale with cuts in the wall and mono pitch roof leaving the wall and roof to follow the limbs of the trees towards the clerestory mullions. The flexibility of the internal space is retained by inserting the bedroom and shower areas into part of the existing garage.

An external courtyard forms the link with the house with an entrance from the double height Drawing Room

The garden wall has a long low window focussing attention on the green boundary treatment of the garden. Fenestration is created by the trunks of the trees and shrubs seen through the glass at floor level.

The rear roof soars up to fill the void between the house and the garage supported off a glazed beam spanning from side to side. Large rooflights grab the sun as it moves around the roof.
