Seaside - M* House15 Photos
Build on a cliff top site in a sleepy conservative village in East Sussex. Brief: demolish existing tired dwelling / construct contemporary family house maximising the very sloping site and spectacular sea views. Passive house standards or as eco-friendly as possible. The sloping site enabled three ground levels: road level for off-street parking and triple garage; front garden level, entrance, family floor and underground bike room built into the hill; back garden level, house accessed by a bridge, living floor, sea view balconies. Master bedroom suite perched on the top floor. A glazed triple height atrium allows the light to penetrate into the deep plan. The biggest hurdle was planning permission which required many modifications over a two year period. Road closures and high winds added to the drama of construction. SIP construction was employed allowing the house to be constructed ‘off-site’ whilst the considerable ground works were being undertaken. The pods were delivered to the site and craned into position. The external envelope was finished with high-performance render and a zinc roof. Contract sum approx. £600k Completed 2015
