A 1960’s bungalow on a fantastic seafront location in Cornwall. After obtaining planning permission for a two storey extension it was decided to demolish the existing structure and rebuild. A timber frame clad in rendered blockwork was the preferred approach to get a building back on site as soon as possible and to protect the frame from the elements. Being ‘new build’ it was also exempt from VAT. The roof was only permitted to be raised by 750mm but we managed to achieve a second floor with two generous bedroom suites, both with all important sea views. The street elevation was kept understated with the drama being revealed once through the front door. As a second home beach house, the layout is designed for holiday living. Built during the economic depression of 2008/9 the build cost of £200k represented remarkable value for money.
