When working on an old building the challenges are many. Not just the fabric of the building, which often reveals itself as the work progresses, but also how to add 21st-century living and technical requirements to a dwelling from a bygone era?
The solution in this house was to retain as much of the old brickwork as possible ( rebuild if necessary ) and add a green oak framed barn to accommodate the Dining and Sitting area off the Kitchen. The glazed double height barn with brick inglenook fireplace made a dramatic contrast to the cosy low ceiling of the existing, remodelled Kitchen.
The random position of windows and low door openings were retained in the new Bedroom and Bathroom layout at first-floor level.
